 NEWS - NOVEMBER 2010

The Wildlife Art exhibition by the six artists shown on the Exhibitions page was a tremendous success.  A great time for the artists to really get to know each other and for the public to meet the artists.  Much encouragement was gained by the interest of the public and a fantastic opportunity for work to be purchased.  Please contact any of the artists for further information.

NEWS  - AUGUST 2010

Along with other TWASI members we recently visited the Newent International Birds of Prey Centre http://www.icbp.org/ for a fascinating and very enjoyable day.  There were 3 flying displays during the day and plenty of wonderful birds to see.  The staff are very friendly and the centre is laid out in such a way that it is a complete day out.  There are picnic areas if you wish to take your own food, a restaurant that provides everything from sandwiches to hot meals and drinks.

The bird that is shown at the top of each of these web pages was painted using one of the centre's Russian Steppes eagles as the subject - what a magnificent creature!!

The ICBP Mission Statement:-

The Conservation of Birds of Prey and their habitats through public education, captive breeding, treatment and rehabilitation of wild injured birds of prey. Research for understanding, health and the conservation of all birds of prey.

Aims and objectives

The Centre is open to the general public for 10 months of the year. Education is ongoing to all visitors. The Centre also undertakes more in depth education to specific groups and parties, from first schools to universities and offers off-site lectures and teaching.

The Centre continues its captive breeding aims; to research species; breed from species not previously understood; provide teaching and written information for captive breeding programmes at home and abroad; maintain the Collection and provide birds for demonstrations, both in the UK and further afield.

The Centre undertakes and encourages non invasive research with the Collection, working with colleges and universities to provide access to the birds for projects and papers. The Centre also works with the National Birds of Prey Trust and the National Aviary Pittsburgh, BNHS and many other groups and facilities to continue to support worldwide field research projects.
